President General of Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA) laments exclusion of Igbo in FG  palliatives distribution in the north

The President General of the Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA) Chief Kenneth Okeugo, has lamented the exclusion of   Igbos in the palliatives being distributed to cushion the effect of petrol subsidy removal.

Chief Okeugo emerged as President General of IDA at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association in Kano on September 17, 2023 to lead the 12 million Igbo residing in the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja region.

The new President General of IDA made this known in an interview with journalists on Monday

“You will find out that the palliative that they are giving out to people in the north we are not being considered,” he said

“When you check some of these areas where insurgents and bandits are operating, Igbo have been displaced.

“When structures that had been destroyed are being rebuilt or palliatives are given to ameliorate the sufferings of victims, our people are not being looked at

“Of course the challenges cannot be much different from what other Nigerians are suffering because you know the insecurity in the country is also affecting our people and there is nowhere in the north that Igbo are not located.

“So insecurity number one. We have also noticed that most of the palliatives and stop gap programmes that the federal government are giving Nigerians Igbo are not really benefitting from it and we don’t really know why.

“Both the palliatives done by the federal government and the ones by the states government”

Chief Okeugo assured that his leadership would look into the issue and partner with Governors of   the 19 states government in order to address the problem
