Federal University Dutse begins construction of Senate building, others

Federal University Dutse,FUD, has began the construction of a new Senate building, lecture theatres and classrooms among others.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed, disclosed this at a Freedom Radio live programme, One on One.
Professor Mohammed said that although universities had been on strike in the last seven months, the management of FUD had been silently trying their best to improve facilities in the university.
He said the ongoing construction work are 250 capacity lecture theatre at the Faculty of Computing, Twin Lecture theatre behind GST, and Twin Lecture theatre behind Postgraduate building.
Others are two Lecture halls for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Nine classrooms building for the Faculty of Education, 100 bed space female hostel, procurement building and the new senate building which is an extension of the existing building, he added.
It would be recalled that the 100 bedspace female hostel was launched last year by the VC has been completed.
Professor Mohammed informed his audience that the Rasheed Shekoni Teaching hospital has taken delivery of state-of-the-art equipment to enhance its capacity to meet its new status as a Teaching hospital.
Among the newly acquired machines at the Teaching hospital include, CT Scam machine, dialysis machine, digital and analog x-ray machines, fluoroscopy machine and an MRI machine, he said.
Professor Mohammed decried the strike action saying it has crippled activities in the nations tertiary institutions.
He added that government alone cannot fund the universities.
He called on government to dialogue with stakeholders in the system to explore alternative funding.
He said from the information available, the strike may soon be over, adding that the universities will face the challenges of admission backlog from 2021 & 2022.
The VC said the financial losses from the strike would also affect the universities negatively.
He appealed to academic staff and students to brace up for the challenges ahead when the universities eventually reopen.
