NANS Urges Senate To Confirm Abdullahi Ramat As NERC Chairman

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged the Senate to confirm the appointment of Engineer Dr Abdullahi Ramat as the substantive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

NANS in a press release by its
Vice President (Special Duties), Comrade Ahmad Abubakar Mallawa on Saturday, lamented the delay in the confirmation of the new NERC chairman since his appointment.

The students’ association says it finds it unacceptable that his confirmation has been unnecessarily delayed “despite the clarity of his competence, the transparency of his service, and the nationwide support for his leadership”.

“Such bureaucratic stagnation, if not addressed, sends a discouraging signal to millions of hardworking and qualified Nigerian youths who aspire to contribute meaningfully to nation-building”, they said.

According to the association, they were elated over the appointment of Ramat in that crucial organisation because of his being a youth as young people clamour for opportunities and their active participation in governance.

“In the unwavering spirit of Aluta Continua, and in defense of progressive governance, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), calls on the Federal Government and the Distinguished Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to, without further hesitation, confirm the appointment of Engineer Dr. Abdullahi Ramat as the substantive Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission NERC

“As the voice of over 42.1 million Nigerian students across tertiary institutions, NANS remains committed to ensuring that the principles of justice, fairness, and youth inclusion are not just political slogans but living realities in our national life.

“The delay in confirming this young, vibrant, and competent technocrat is a matter of grave concern, not only to the youth constituency but to every Nigerian who believes in the future of this great nation”, the association stated.

NANS stressed that Nigerian youth cannot longer remain as spectators in governance but as active participants.

“As Nelson Mandela once declared, “The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow,” and the tomorrow of Nigeria begins now.

“Similarly, Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary-General, reminded the world that “A society that cuts itself off from its youth severs its lifeline.”

“Indeed, the continued delay in confirming Engineer Dr Abdullahi Ramat is not just a delay in a personal career, it is a delay in the progress of Nigerian youth leadership and a blow to national confidence in the system of merit”, he said.
