Sheikh Masussuka Honoured As Peace Ambassador For Promoting Interfaith Harmony

A prominent Katsina-based Islamic preacher, Sheikh Yahya Ibrahim Masussuka, has been recognised for his tireless efforts in promoting peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians in Nigeria.

The Network for Good Governance and Transparency (NGGT) presented him with a Peace Ambassador award during the “Celebration of Peacekeepers Day” event held at Bello Kofar Bai Conference Hall in Katsina.

Sheikh Masussuka, a Qur’anist, has been a vocal advocate for peace and understanding, often challenging hate speeches and extremist ideologies.

He emphasises the Quran’s message of freedom of religion and debunks hadiths that allegedly contradict the holy book. His unconventional approach has earned him recognition and respect across religious lines.

During the event, Sheikh Masussuka expressed concerns about the huge financial burden of security on the government.

He opined that a change in public orientation could lead to peace, reducing the need for massive security expenditures.

Brigadier General Babatunde Omopariola, representing the Nigerian Army’s 17 Brigade Headquarters, echoed this sentiment, urging the public to avoid actions that could threaten peace.

The event, themed “Peace Begins With Me,” brought together stakeholders to discuss security challenges in the North and brainstorm solutions.

The organisers stressed the importance of collective efforts in promoting peace and stability.
