From Paul Orude Bauchi
Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University ,ATBU, Bauchi in affiliation with Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, has matriculated a total of 100 students for the 2022/2023 academic session.
Addressing the newly admitted students during the matriculation ceremony held at the 510 Capacity Hall of the Polytechnic in Thursday,, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Ahmad Andulazeez, congratulated them on their admission.
The matriculation ceremony was attended by principal Officers of the University, members of Senate of the University, the Rector, Sani Usman, Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, principal Officers of the Polytechnic, Dean, FAAT, ATBU, Bauchi
Others included members of the Academic Board, Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, and staff and Students of both institutions.
“I am indeed delighted to address the second set of matriculating students of our great institution in this historic Polytechnic. Our journey together had come a long way since the signing of a memorandum of understanding in Bauchi and subsequent approval for the admission of undergraduate students,” the VC who was represented by Professor Mansur Usman Malumfashi.stated.
“I want to reiterate that the review of the last three sessions proved that we have not made the wrong decision in bestowing our confidence in your Institution. I therefore, call on you to keep to the terms and conditions of our collaboration and never have any cause to disappoint us whatsoever.
“Matriculation is a cardinal requirement for qualifying admitted students as bonafide members of a University, or indeed, any tertiary institution. As the tradition demands, we are here today to perform this pre- requisite function in order to formally admit fresh students into the main Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University community.
“Let me therefore, congratulate you as the lucky ones for this special opportunity as you can only appreciate this special status when you consider the great number of qualified persons like you who were unable to secure admission and get registered into a University. I am convinced that this calls for celebration on your part.
“However, let me make it clear to you that ATBU, as a matter of policy, has zero tolerance to all kinds of vices. Anti-social behaviours such as cultism, examination mal-practice, sexual harassment, drug abuse, indecent dressing, vandalism and truancy are deviant behaviours.
“Our duty here is not only to give you access to knowledge, but also to help in molding your character so that you become responsible citizens of our nation. Those who are too arrogant to conform to this will be shown the way out.
“The oath you have taken today is an indication of your readiness to abide by ATBU laws and statutes as well as a promise you will conduct yourself with decorum during your stay in this Institution.
“I, therefore, on behalf of myself and the University community, wish you a successful academic pursuit.
“As for your stay here, everything has been done possible to ensure an acceptable standard of educational facilities and welfare.
“You should therefore, give the Polytechnic all the needed support to realize the vision and mission of both the Polytechnic and our University. Please, do not hesitate to avail yourselves with the facilities in place to enable you succeed. You should however, note that you are important stakeholders and custodians of these facilities. You should therefore use them wisely, own them and protect them.
“Let me use this opportunity to further express the University’s appreciation of the support being given to the Polytechnic by the host community.
“Our special regard goes to the Bauchi State Government for its tireless support which is a mark of seriousness to the development of education as a vehicle for transformation”
The Rector, Sani Usman said that the programme was an affiliation with the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi.
Usman who was represented by the Director, Academic Planning, Mr Salihu Chimo, explained that the programme was conceived about four years ago to enable the students of the polytechnic particularly, that had completed their National Diploma programmes and wanted to have degree qualification because of issues of dichotomy.
“We brought the idea so that we can train our students in conjunction with ATBU and so far, the programme has been going on smoothly without hitches,” he said.
