The competition was organized by the special adviser for the students of all tertiary institutions in the state and was held at Gombe State University (GSU) multipurpose hall with the Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Aliyu Usman El-Nafaty as host.

Our correspondent reports that the media aide presented cash prizes of N100, 000, N70, 000, N50, 000 and N40, 000 to the first, second, third and fourth winners respectively in addition to certificate awards.

He also donated N15, 000 to the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th best presenters while all other students that sent in submissions from all the participating institutions received the sum of N5, 000 each.

Leadership reports that Farhana Ibrahim, Umaima Ibrahim Muhammad and Ibrahim Abubakar, all students of the Gombe State University (GSU) won the first, second and third prizes.

In his speech during the grand finale of the competition, the special adviser on information management and strategy to the governor Ahmed Shuaibu Gara explained that the event was meant to bring the activities and legacies of his principal to limelight via such public presentation by the citizens.

He said the event was also part of efforts by his office to empower the undergraduate students in the different higher institutions promising that similar competition would be organized for secondary schools students in the state.

“The aim of it is trying to open up the space to engage the younger generation in democratic process. They also have role to play because majority of the students in tertiary institutions are within the voting age. Since they are within the voting age, we need to engage them because they are not supposed to be only engaged during campaign rallies. But we need to introduce an academic touch to the campaign process where we are seeking another term for His Excellency”. He noted.

Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the Gombe State University Professor Aliyu Usman El-Nafaty hailed the special adviser for organizing the event opining that it would help in boosting the skills of students in research, essay writing and public presentations.
