ATBU Disowns Fake Circular on Resumption Date and Accommodation Fees

Our Editor
The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has disowned a circular currently circulating on social media platforms which falsely claims that the institution will reopen on Friday, January 2, 2026, with an accommodation fee of ₦80,000.
In a press release issued by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, the University described the circular as fake and misleading.
According to the statement, the document, dated December 29, 2025, was purportedly issued from the University’s Registry and even carried a forged signature of the Registrar, Alhaji Kabiru Garba Aminu.
ATBU management categorically stated that it has no connection whatsoever with the circular and urged parents, guardians, students, and other stakeholders to disregard its contents entirely.
The University clarified that the official resumption date for returning students remains Monday, January 5, 2026, while newly admitted students are expected to resume on Monday, January 12, 2026, in line with the Senate-approved academic calendar for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Furthermore, management emphasized that there has been no review of registration or accommodation fees for either returning or new students, contrary to the claims made in the fake circular.
The University concluded by wishing students a safe return to campus and a successful academic year.
The statement was signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa, on January 1, 2026
