Bauchi: Gov Bala Mohammad’s Administration Sets For More Borrowing

From Paul Orude, Bauchi
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has disclosed that his administration will borrow more funds.
Mohammed reportedly borrowed a total of N100 billion since assuming office in 2019
.
Re-elected in 2023, he explained that his administration needs additional borrowing to further drive infrastructural projects
He made this known shortly before kick-starting a State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.
The governor explained that he has directed his cabinet members and economic team to factor the borrowing plan into the 2026 budget.
“This year, we are going to be ambitious,” he said.
“We are going to have some borrowing plans, foreign loans to address areas where we have not done well, such as water resources, agriculture, rural development, and education.
“We are going to fence all our schools, we are going to build hostels, dormitories and laboratories, provide electricity, and ensure that all local government headquarters have running water.
“We must acquire tractors, create senatorial-zone farm centres again to boost mechanized farming; extension services must return.
“We must develop our human capital to a point where we can comfortably pay pension and gratuity, which continues to disturb us even though it affects only a small percentage of the populace.
.
“We have made enough provisions in the 2026 budget to enable us borrow and achieve these goals.”
He said preparations for the 2026 budget have begun in earnest to achieve the set targets.
