Bauchi Gov’t Renames Oil And Gas Academy, Appoints Security Officer For Institution

By Najib Sani, Gombe
The Bauchi State Government has approved the renaming of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy Alkaleri (BOGAA) to Oil and Gas Academy Alkaleri, Bauchi State (OGAABS).
State commissioner for natural resources development, Muhammad Maiwada, who disclosed this at a press briefing on Tuesday, said ‘this strategic rebranding is designed to enhance the institution’s visibility, competitiveness, and global positioning’.
According to him, the former name placed “Bauchi” as the first reference point, which unintentionally created a perception of the institution as a narrowly localised entity pointing out that the new name, Oil and Gas Academy Alkaleri, Bauchi State (OGABS), presents the Academy as a professional, government-backed training institution with broader relevance and international appeal.
He stated that the renaming forms part of ongoing efforts to align the Academy with national and global standards in oil and gas education, attract high-quality partnerships, funding, expand opportunities for students, industry experts, and collaborators within Nigeria and beyond.
He further noted that the new identity strengthens the Academy’s brand projection, improves recognition in international conversations, and reinforces Bauchi State’s commitment to developing a skilled workforce to support Nigeria’s growing energy sector.
In the same development, the commissioner announced the appointment of Shehu Muhammad (Mammaji) a former Chief Superintendent of Customs, as the new Chief Security Officer of the Academy.
“The Oil and Gas Academy Alkaleri, Bauchi State, remains dedicated to providing world-class capacity-building programmes, technical training, and professional development aimed at empowering young people and advancing the nation’s oil and gas industry”, he said.
Maiwada extended the appreciation of the agency and the supervisory ministry to the governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed for his ‘tireless’ support to the success of the academy.
He further appreciated the effort of the state legislature for considering this bill on time, hence pray for the success of the academy, Bauchi state and Nigeria at large.
