The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the arrest of 11 suspects in connection with the killing of one Ahmed Lawan, popularly known as “Soje,” an alleged political thug described as a Sara-Suka member in Bauchi.

The disclosure was made by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, in a statement issued to journalists in Bauchi on Monday.

According to the statement, “On 2nd October 2025, at about 0825hrs, a case of culpable homicide was reported at D’ Division Police Headquarters by a good Samaritan, alleging that two individuals went to the residence of Ahmed Lawan, aged 29, also known as Soje, of Sabon Kasuwa. They knocked on his door and, when he responded, stabbed him in the chest before fleeing.”

Police operatives attached to D’ Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Mubarak Sani Baba, immediately mobilised to the scene and rushed the victim to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. The body was released to the family for burial according to Islamic rites.

Preliminary investigation identified two prime suspects—Abubakar Ibrahim, also known as Duduwa, and Abubakar Mohammed.

Following the burial, angry youths carried out a reprisal attack and set ablaze the family house of one of the suspects. A combined team from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Operation Restore Peace (ORP), and D’ Division swiftly intervened to prevent escalation.

“One of the suspects, Abubakar Ibrahim, initially fled but was sighted later at Mararraban Liman-Katagum and apprehended by quasi-security operatives,” the PPRO stated.

However, while being taken to the police station, the suspect was intercepted and attacked by irate youths at Kwanar Kwaila, sustaining fractures in both hands and a deep cut on his head. Police operatives responded to a distress call, dispersed the crowd, rescued the suspect, and evacuated him to ATBUTH for treatment.

Eleven suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the case. They are:

Abdulwahab Adamu (25), Nuruddeen Idris (21), Kabiru Saidu (25), Ibrahim Hamza (22), Abdullahi Isah (21), Abdulrasheed Garba (25), Abdulwahab Abubakar (25), Kabiru Muhammad (27), Musa Abdullahi (24), Umar Muhammad (25) and Umar Ali (27), all residents of various areas in Bauchi metropolis.

They are undergoing investigation to determine their level of involvement, while efforts continue to track down fleeing accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, cautioned parents, guardians and community leaders to warn their wards against participating in violent activities or being used as political tools.

He assured that the Command “will not hesitate to decisively deal with any person or group causing a breach of peace in the state.”

He added that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted, noting that tactical teams had been strategically deployed to ensure full enforcement of the law.
