748 Arrested as Bauchi Police Record Breakthrough in Crime War

The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the arrest of 748 suspects linked to various crimes across the state, marking what it described as a major breakthrough in the fight against criminality.
Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, disclosed this on Thursday, August 21, 2025, during a press briefing at the State Police Headquarters, Yandoka Road, Bauchi.
Since assuming duty as the 46th Commissioner of Police in Bauchi, Aliyu said the Command has remained steadfast in combating crime through professionalism, intelligence-led operations, and proactive policing strategies.
“The period under review has presented considerable challenges; nonetheless, the tenacity, dedication, and commitment of our officers have been instrumental in sustaining relative peace within the State,” Aliyu stated.
He added that the Command’s achievements reflect the guidance and directives of the 22nd indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
According to the CP, the Command recorded 394 cases within the period, which led to the arrests of hundreds of suspects across different categories of crimes.
Breakdown of arrests:
Armed Robbery: 57 cases, 113 suspects
Culpable Homicide: 78 cases, 171 suspects
Attempted Culpable Homicide: 14 cases, 24 suspects
Grievous Hurt: 7 cases, 16 suspects
Rape and Indecent Assault: 44 cases, 72 suspects
Kidnapping: 4 cases, 7 suspects
Theft/Stealing: 20 cases, 37 suspects
False Pretense/Cheating: 117 cases, 106 suspects
Mischief by Fire: 2 cases, 3 suspects
Forgery of Currency Notes: 2 cases, 2 suspects
Breach of Public Peace: 9 cases, 29 suspects
Unnatural Offences: 2 cases, 2 suspects
Other cases: 30 cases, 54 suspects (20 charged to court, 10 under investigation, 6 convictions secured with 10 suspects)
Aliyu assured residents of Bauchi that the Command will continue to consolidate on its gains to ensure a safer and crime-free environment.
