Bauchi: 1 Killed, Livestock Slaughtered in Farmers-Herders Clash in Bogoro

Tension erupted in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, leaving one person dead and dozens of livestock slaughtered.in a renewed farmers-herders face off.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the incident occurred in the early hours of August 8, 2025, following a report from the village head of Kaduna, Emmanuel Bulus.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, 40-year-old Irmiya Yohanna, had gone to his farm on August 7 and found cattle grazing there. An altercation reportedly broke out with the herders, leading to his death. His body was later found on the farm and taken to Bogoro General Hospital, where a doctor confirmed him dead.
In retaliation, angry locals attacked herders in the area, stabbing and killing about 20 cows and 19 sheep, while injuring several others. Police intervened, rescuing 249 cows and arresting one suspect, Ahmadu Mairiga, believed to be linked to Yohanna’s killing.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, visited the scene, meeting with local leaders, traditional rulers, and community representatives. He assured residents that the command was taking measures to restore peace and ensure justice.
