As part of its social responsibility, the Shalele Ce Enterprises in Gombe State, a private company, has launched a training programme for 1,000 housewives in the state on online business skills.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of the programme at the Gombe State University (GSU) over the weekend, the Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Maryam Ibrahim Jalo, explained that the initiative tagged “Ambitious Women” aimed to promote entrepreneurship and self-reliance among housewives, allowing them to operate businesses from the comfort of their homes.
She noted that the training would cover digital skills, online advertising, and product promotion to equip the housewives with the necessary tools to succeed in online businesses.
“By enabling women to manage their businesses without having to leave their homes, the programme seeks to reduce marital conflicts and promote peace among spouses”, she stated.
In his speech, the director publicity of the state Chamber of Commerce, Yusuf Haruna, expressed support for the initiative, recognising the importance of women entrepreneurs in Nigeria.
One of the participants, Juwairiyyat Mohammed, praised the programme, saying it would be impactful and empower housewives.
She opined that online business is the most ideal for housewives “as it allows them to balance their domestic responsibilities with their entrepreneurial pursuits”.
