NGO Launches Tree Planting To Promote Safe School Environment In Gombe

By Najib Sani, Gombe
A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Gombe State known as ‘ADDA Girls Education Foundation’ has launched tree planting in schools in Gombe State in order to promote safe environment for children.
Our correspondent reports that many parts of the state are bedevilled by serious gully erosion and desertification.
The programme manager of the foundation, Samira Galadima in an interview with our correspondent shortly after the launching of the tree planting in the schools explained that it was part of their activities to commemorate this year’s children’s day and a step towards creating a safe and sustainable school environment in Gombe State.
She added that the organisation received the donated tree seedlings from Gombe State ACRESAL saying if trees are planted and grown in the state, they would mitigate the risks of erosion, windstorms and other climate-related problems.
Samira further explained that the broader objective of the NGO is to promote girl-child education and educate girls ‘from cradle to leadership’.
Our correspondent reports that schools that benefited from the initiative include Government Junior Secondary School at Buhari Estate, Government Primary School Buhari Estate, Government Comprehensive Day Secondary School Gombe, Government Day Science 2 Gombe, and Government Girls Science Secondary School Kumo with each school receiving 50 tree seedlings.
In their response, principals and students of the schools praised the initiatives.
Mohammed Musa Mohammed, Principal of Government Comprehensive Day Secondary School Gombe, said the programme would help curb erosion in the state.
Students, such as Sa’adatu Mohammed Anco, pledged to take care of the plants assigned to them.
