SAZU’s Faculty of Law Fosters Collaboration with Sister Institutions to Enhance Legal Education

From Paul Orude Bauchi
The Jurist Chamber of the Faculty of Law, Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi State has embarked on a strategic partnership with sister legal institutions as part of efforts towards advancing the frontiers of legal education,
Professor Saleh Muhammad Galadima Kanam, Dean of the Faculty of Law, made the disclosure during a public lecture organized in honor of Justice Eleojo Enanche JCA.
The event, which was hosted by SAZU’sFaculty of Law, aimed to recognise and celebrate Justice Enanche’s outstanding contributions to the advancement of justice in Nigeria.
Kanam, who presented a paper entitled “Delay in Disposing Cases by the Supreme Court and its Implications for Access to Justice in Nigeria: A Call for Reform”, highlighted some of the daunting challenges confronting the Nigerian judiciary.
The scholar argued that the judiciary is plagued by delays in disposal of cases, limited number of justices, and procedural bottlenecks.
To address these challenges, Kanam advocated for the unbundling of Supreme Courts into Zonal Judicial Divisions, arguing that this would facilitate easier access to justice for litigants and ensure quicker dispensation of cases.
His proposal was corroborated by Justice Enanche, who presented a complementary paper on “Delay in Disposing Cases by the Appellate Courts in Nigeria from the Perspectives of Access to Justice. Unbundling the Supreme Court as Panacea. Issues and Prospects.”
Enanche commended the Faculty of Law for organizing the event, which provided a platform for stakeholders to engage in constructive discourse on the challenges facing the Nigerian judiciary.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration among legal institutions, noting that it was essential for advancing the course of justice in Nigeria.
The event was attended by an array of distinguished personalities, including the JSC Secretary and Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Dr. Ibrahim Danjuma. The presence of these notable figures underscored the significance of the occasion and the importance of the issues being discussed.
This collaboration between the Faculty of Law at SAZU and its sister institutions demonstrates the university’s commitment to academic excellence and its desire to engage with other stakeholders to advance legal education.
By fostering partnerships and facilitating constructive dialogue, the Faculty of Law aims to contribute meaningfully to the development of the Nigerian judiciary and the advancement of justice in the country
