NYSC remains beacon of hope for prosperous nation – Gov. Mohammed

Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state on Tuesday, says that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) remained a beacon of hope in the country’s mission for a united and prosperous nation.
Mohammed stated this on Tuesday during the swearing in ceremony of the 2023 Batch “C” stream II corps members posted to the state at the state permanent orientation camp in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area.
Represented by his Deputy Alh. Auwal Jatau, Mohammed said for the past 50 years, the scheme had exposed millions of youths to the cultures and traditions of the Nigerian societies as well as impacting skills and experiences to enhance those they had acquired in school.
The governor called on the corps members to feel free to integrate with members of their host communities and participate actively in their developmental efforts.
“My dear compatriots, the success or otherwise of your service is to a large extent dependent on the foundation laid during the orientation course.
“The orientation exercise is designed to prepare you for challenges you may face during the service year and beyond.
“I implore you to actively participate in all camp activities so as to adequately equip yourself for challenges ahead,” he said.
The governor reiterated the commitment of his administration toward supporting the scheme in the state and promised to ensure that necessary appropriation would continue to be provided to sustain the gains of the service corps.
He also promised to continue to provide for the welfare and secondary needs of all corps members deployed to the state.
Earlier, the Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, said that the orientation course was planned to task the corps members physically, mentally and emotionally.
According to her, the course
content of the programme was shaped and streamlined to instill in them physical and leadership qualities for future challenges.
“I urge them all to actively participate in these events and programmes as their confidential assessment commence
right from the orientation camp,” she said.
She explained that at the end of the registration exercise of the corps members on Monday, a total of 1,409 prospective corps members, consisting of 746 males and 663 females were registered.
