Subsidy removal: UK-based Nigerian donates food items to indigent residents of Bauchi

Rauf Oyewole, Bauchi
To cushion the biting hardship after the fuel subsidy removal by the government, a United Kingdom based woman and founder of The Kairos Initiative, Ije McDougall has donated food items to less privileged women in Kaffi Madaki, Ganjuwa Local government area of Bauchi State.
The food items which were shared yesterday include, beans, maize, spaghetti, indomie, sugar, salt and others were given to women who were drawn from different families. The team lead of Kairos Initiative in Nigeria, Moji Iheme while speaking during the distribution said that the founder of the Initiative, Ije McDougall, a United Kingdom based woman was disturbed about what some families face in putting food on their tables.
“We initially planned to assist 50 of them but we ended up giving 60 of them. We have been giving delivery kits and baby items to pregnant women at different hospitals. We have renovated a hospital, a school and so many of them benefited in other ways.
“We recently disbursed cash transfer to assist over 50 families in Nigeria, some of whom were finding it uneasy to put food on their table.”
One of the beneficiaries, Amina Mohammed said that she could not thank the Organisation enough as she could not give her three-year-old baby three square meals. “Look at this package, I can see noodles and other things here, I’m sure of what my boy will eat for days now. Things have been hard even before the removal of the subsidy.”
Ije, the founder of Kairos Initiative was born in Bauchi State before relocating to the UK. She’s been passionate about the plight of the less privileged in the UK and Nigeria and received several awards on humanitarian assistance. Ije is the winner of the prestigious Cheshire Woman Award 2023.
