Akpabio elected Senate President, Tajudeen Speaker
Senator Godswill Akpabio has been elected the President of the 10th Senate.
Akpabio was elected on the floor of the Senate after its inauguration.
He emerged winner to beat his contender, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, both members of the All Progressives Congress.
The former Governor of Akwa Ibom has subsequently been sworn in. The election was carried out in a secret ballot system, where Senators were called out according to their states to cast their votes.
Similarly, Senator Jibrin Barau has emerged as Deputy Senate President and has been sworn in.
Meanwhile, Abass Tajudeen, a member from Kaduna State has emerged Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Abbas trounced his two opponents by polling 353 votes, while former Deputy Speaker Idris Wase and Aminu Jaji managed three votes each.
The votes that two men got were from themselves and the lawmakers that nominated them.
